Purplefish is the highest-scoring B Corp in the South West

Purplefish has achieved a standout milestone, our B Corp recertification score of 148.6 is now the highest in the South West of England!

This exceptional result places Purplefish among the top-performing B Corps in the UK, where more than 3,000 businesses currently hold the certification.

Raising the bar: from 109 to 148.6

First certified in 2022 with a score of 109, Purplefish has significantly raised the bar in its latest B Impact Assessment.

To maintain B Corp status, for-profit businesses must earn at least 80 points and complete a detailed verification process assessing their impact on governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.

A new impact report: People, Planet and Purpose

To accompany the recertification, Purplefish has launched its latest impact report, outlining its commitments across social, environmental, and ethical dimensions. Highlights include:

  • Transition to 100% employee ownership (February 2024)

  • Strengthened relationships with local partners including St Pauls Carnival, Fintech West, and Babbasa

  • Delivery of 500 pro bono hours to support charities and purpose-led organisations in FY23/24

Leadership commentary: purpose beyond profit

Lucy McKerron, managing director of Purplefish, shared:

“We believe success isn’t just measured in profits, but in the meaningful difference we make to the world around us.

Since becoming a B Corp in 2022, we’ve evolved—embedding new company values, deepening community relationships and becoming employee-owned.

As the current highest-scoring B Corp in the South West, we are committed to collaborating with other purpose-led businesses and creating more accessible pathways into the creative industries.”

Community and culture at the core

Purplefish received standout scores in the ‘Workers’ (52.9) and ‘Community’ (47.1) impact areas. These reflect:

  • Its transition to employee ownership, promoting shared responsibility and long-term staff investment

  • Strategic partnerships with local charities and organisations

  • Ongoing work with Julian Trust night shelter, offering hands-on volunteering, support, and donations throughout the year

Sustainability commitments and operational change

As part of its climate impact reduction strategy, Purplefish has:

  • Begun measuring Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions

  • Relocated to a shared office space in October 2024, reducing energy consumption

  • Started producing its net zero roadmap to guide long-term sustainability efforts
