Improving Future Finance’s brand awareness

Future Finance is a £1.8 million innovation accelerator led by the University of Bristol and funded by Innovate UK and the ESRC. It aims to boost productivity and innovation among SME and mid-tier financial services firms across the UK.

Key challenges

  • The project had low brand awareness and a lack of clear messaging that made it difficult for businesses to understand the value of participating.

  • Increasing sign up for events and participation in key programmes

  • Purplefish was brought on to lead a marketing and communications strategy that would build visibility, clarify messaging, and drive engagement from target financial services businesses.

The work

  • We began by auditing existing communications and developing a strategic messaging framework to position Future Finance as a credible, relevant and action-focused programme for innovation.

  • We then delivered an integrated content and media strategy that included:

  • Whitepapers based on academic research, translated into accessible, sector-specific insights

  • Vox-pop style case study videos showcasing real businesses and their experiences with the programme

  • Media relations and events to launch content, drive discussion, and build momentum with regional and trade audiences.

  • Each element of the campaign was designed to position Future Finance as a thought leader and practical support system for innovation across the sector.

The impact

  • 300+ event attendees in 2024 across the UK.

  • 60 financial services firms and credit unions joined the accelerator programme.

  • The content campaign created a foundation for continued engagement, positioning the programme as a catalyst for innovation and inclusion in financial services.
